On September 30th Phillip Jeffrey Evans, the third child of four children was born to Deacon Warrie Evans Jr and Marie Evans in Raleigh, NC. He passed in peace on Saturday, September 4th in his home in Garner, NC.

A graduate of Garner Senior High School’s Class of 1997, Phillip was friendly, joyful, charming, known for his contagious smile, and giving spirit. In high school he was able to further enhance his love of vehicles (cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, jet skis, etc…loved them all) studying auto mechanics, engineering and business. His education and strong work ethic led to him becoming a successful entrepreneur for over fifteen years.

He accepted Christ as a young man and became a member of Springfield Baptist Church in July of 1994. As a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Phillip freely served and was a Youth Usher, Youth Superintendent of Sunday School, an avid member of the Youth Department, and most recently serving in the Audio-Visual Ministry and Chairman of the Transportation Committee. His service as a young man at Springfield prepared him as a leader and further enhanced his education which provided him with the skills and abilities to lead multiple successful businesses. It was also there that he found a mentor in Reverend Melvin Turner, who took him on as an apprentice, as a young man when he was most in need.

With his strong work ethic, Phillip was up before dawn and often worked until sundown. He owned several businesses: a dump truck business, over the road trucking business, water sports’ company and a landscaping company. He enjoyed these businesses and partnered with his cousin/brother, Lamont Williams. Both of whom were mentees and apprentices of their Uncle “Butch”, the Late Deacon Charles Chavis who furthered their knowledge of entrepreneurship and the trucking industry.

Knowing that he was blessed and highly favored, Phillip was a very giving person and his service to others didn’t end at church. John 8:12 states: Then spake Jesus again unto them saying: I am the Light of the world. He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” We know that Phillip was filled with Jesus’ Light by his smile and the life that he lived. He often provided meals to those in need in downtown Raleigh, mentoring young men and providing them with work as needed, and simply helping anyone who needed advice or a helping hand. As an avid supporter of the Triangle biking community, he could also be found delivering bikes, coats and gifts to families in Raleigh North and Southeast Raleigh. After his children opened their gifts on Christmas Morning, Phillip would take them to help pass out gifts in the community. These various Triangle bike clubs provided meals to the community and held fundraisers to help families in need. If you speak with anyone who knew Phillip, family or friends, they can likely share a story with you of how he has helped them and he did this without judgement. He gave advice freely and provided a safe place to share without any feeling of shame.

The love he had for his children cannot be explained in words, as he displayed the role of a perfect father to his children that he loved dearly. He instilled in them the importance of Christ, working hard, and getting a good education (No D’s, F’s and minimal C’s in school). He wanted to make sure that they excelled. He absolutely made sure that they were well taken cared for. It was his pleasure to give them what they wanted, that was within his will power.

Phillip loved his family. He always planned family trips especially to his favorite place, “The Beach”. His ultimate goal was to make sure the family stayed together. He loved life and wanted those around him to have the same kind of appreciation for life.
